Laser Therapy (Photobiomodulation)

What is Laser LED Therapy?

Laser therapy is also called Low Level Light therapy (LLLT) and is “The application of Red light and near infrared radiation over injuries or lesions to stimulate healing and relieve pain without sensation or side effects” (Thor International ltd)

Laser therapy is used for the treatment of sports injuries, chronic pain syndromes and wounds such as venous and diabetic ulcers.

Lasers and LED’s are internationally classified in risk categories

  • Class 1 - Those used in Bar code reading
  • Class 2 - Used in laser pointer pens. Low level, generally safe, some precaution needed
  • Class 3 - Healing sports injuries etc. New, but hazardous to eyes
  • Class 4 - Surgical applications. Hazardous under all conditions to eyes and skin.

How does it work?

Laser lights have been found to activate biological processes in cells, resulting in imitations of signaling cascade that promotes cellular proliferation and cytoprotection

It can be used to help treat venous leg ulcers, tissue damage in falls or sports related injuries, open wounds and pain in chronic joint disorders such as those in osteo and rheumatoid arthritis.
